CommentaryKnown as a "Kusura-type figurine," this small sculpture takes its name from the modern Turkish village where such objects were first rediscovered. It is also described as "schematic," because it reduces the human form to a simple outline without features or limbs. The culture that made this work left no written records. However, archaeologists have suggested that the generalized female-form Kusura-type figurines represent a local fertility goddess.
