CommentaryJorgensen was fortunate to have significant family support, and her grandmother was her biggest champion. She was also well supported by her Danish doctor, Dr. Christian Hamburger—she changed her name to Christine to honor Dr. Hamburger’s work in helping her become her true self. In the 1980s Jorgensen travelled back to Denmark for a reunion with the doctors who helped her. Speaking to the press, she acknowledged the milestone her case represented, saying, "We didn't start the sexual revolution but I think we gave it a good kick in the pants!"
